  • Encouraging caregivers

The training is accomplished in four classes or one six-hour workshop, including role play, first visits, and covers persons in their home, persons in retirement communities, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. While the focus is on older adults, all homebound persons are candidates for visits. Also covered is visitor / visitee matching, assignment, visit scheduling and obtaining feedback from persons visited.

Transportation

Transportation may include:

  • Volunteer drivers
  • Deliver the homebound person to / from appointments
  • Deliver medicines, groceries and other items to the homebound

Basic Home Services

Basic home services are automatic twice monthly visits or on call.  The services may include the repeated tasks of:

  • Changing light bulbs or plugging in power cords
  • Verifying that sinks and toilets work
  • Removing dangerous objects or trash from hallways
  • Verifying that doors are able to be closed and locked
  • Bringing in the mail from the mailbox
  • Checking with the recipient for any maintenance or repair needs (maintenance or repair NOT provided by the basic home service)

Although any person over the age of eighteen is eligible to be a volunteer, Senior New Ways will make every effort to encourage and promote this activity for "boomers and beyond".
