Kathy, 44 "...my mom loves the music - she sings along, she remembers when the songs were new... I'm amazed at how much she knows..."
In our
Care Facility Visitor Service,
Senior New Ways volunteers now visit ten care facilities in
Santa Clara County.
WE NEED VOLUNTEER VISITORS!
Candace, 31 "...my grandpa was tapping his foot. I saw him doubled over with laughter... and he told me about being in World War II... he was so brave"
Hal, 50 "...she (my mother) would never miss her Senior Health Chat... she says 'I need them. I don't think I could have gotten through my fall without them'"
We were awarded a one year grant (100 sessions plus memory testing)
for our Vintage Music Therapy Program
at the Los Altos Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Center! The grant was
received from the Los Altos Community Foundation
funded by the David and Lucille Packard Foundation.
Our second one year grant is from Beulah Older Adult Grant
Fund Committee of the United Methodist Women of the
California-Nevada Conference. These funds will be used to recruit,
train and schedule volunteers in our
Care Facilitity Visitor Service.
Also, we will start work on scrapbooks, photograph books, legacy
audio and video records of interviews or stories/remembrances.
At Senior New Ways:
Our parents and their generation have incredible value – they deserve dignity, respect, honor – and we need to hear their stories and get their insights.
We understand seniors ~ they need to be loved and cared for ~ they have been and are great contributors ~ they have much to share with the rest of us ~ they served their country ~ they are deserving of our love and attention… for us, being a senior is not a sentence of obscurity and despair and depression… it is light, uplifting, fun, meaningful.
At Senior New Ways,
we believe that elders are the
jewels of humanity.
We help older adults lead
happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
